The Importance of Zakat for Society
The Importance of Giving Zakat
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever goes to bed full while their neighbor is hungry beside them, knowing of their condition, has not truly believed in me.”
Zakat is the third pillar of Islam and is considered a form of charity. It fosters solidarity and compassion within society. Allah Almighty has ordained zakat for the benefit of all Muslims, as it promotes love and mercy in their hearts.
The benefits of zakat extend to all individuals in society.
Benefits of Giving Zakat for the Giver
Zakat offers numerous benefits to the person who gives it, including:
-
Purifying wealth and increasing its blessings, as the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Wealth does not decrease due to charity.”
-
Spending in the way of Allah strengthens faith and increases reward.
-
The term “sadaqah” (charity) reflects sincerity, as giving zakat demonstrates the giver’s truthfulness through their willingness to part with their wealth.
-
Purifying the soul from greed and selfishness by sharing wealth with those in need.
-
Cleansing the soul from stinginess while providing comfort to the poor and deprived.
-
Multiplying wealth and adding blessings to it, as Allah says: “The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed which grows seven spikes; in each spike is a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies [His reward] for whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing.” (Al-Baqarah 2:261).
